Geneva serves a cross-border region and an international institutional community, which gives it an unusual mix of business, diplomatic and ski traffic on a compact single-terminal site. The rail station next to the terminal reaches Genève-Cornavin in about seven minutes, and arriving passengers can pick up a free short-term public transport ticket in the baggage hall. Saturdays in winter are the busiest of the year, when charter and low-cost flights bring alpine holidaymakers in waves.
As in Zurich, Switzerland's air transport agreement with the European Union has brought Regulation (EC) 261/2004 into Swiss law, so flights departing Geneva are in practice treated much like EU departures, and Swiss passenger rights may apply as well. The strongest claims are on flights from Geneva into the EU and on flights operated by an EU airline; an arrival into Geneva from a third country on a non-EU carrier is the case that generally falls outside the Regulation. Watch the operating carrier here, because easyJet flies from Geneva under both a Swiss and an EU licence and the answer for arrivals can differ depending on which entity operated your flight. Amounts and thresholds are otherwise the standard ones: €250, €400 or €600, from three hours' arrival delay.
Check your boarding pass for the operating airline's full legal name rather than the brand, since that detail decides how an arrival claim is framed. If you use the French sector, remember the flight is still a Geneva flight for claim purposes; the sector only changes which side of the border you walk out on. In heavy snow the airline may cancel rather than delay, and you are entitled to choose between a refund and re-routing at the earliest opportunity — do not let a queue push you into accepting a flight three days later without asking about alternatives on other carriers.
