Vueling

Vueling flight delay or cancellation compensation

  • IATA VY / ICAO VLG, part of IAG alongside Iberia and British Airways.
  • Main base at Barcelona-El Prat, with secondary bases including Paris Orly and Rome Fiumicino.
  • Short-haul only, flown entirely with Airbus A320-family aircraft.

Vueling is a Spanish low-cost airline founded in 2004 and merged with Clickair in 2009. It is the largest carrier at Barcelona-El Prat and links Spain with most of Western Europe, plus North Africa and a handful of Middle Eastern destinations.

Your passenger rights

As an EU airline, Vueling is covered by EC 261/2004 on every departure from an EU airport and on every flight arriving in the EU. Because almost the whole network is short-haul, most valid claims fall in the 250 EUR band (up to 1,500 km) or the 400 EUR band (1,500-3,500 km and longer intra-EU routes). Flights leaving London Gatwick instead fall under UK261, at 220 GBP or 350 GBP.

Tips for claiming

Barcelona is slot-constrained and Vueling rotations often run late through the day, so save the arrival time shown on the airport screens rather than the airline app. French air traffic control strikes regularly hit Barcelona-northern Europe routes and count as extraordinary circumstances, but a strike by Vueling's own crews does not. Spain's enforcement body is AESA.
