Transavia France was set up in 2007 as the French arm of the Dutch Transavia and has become the group's main tool for competing with Ryanair and easyJet on leisure routes out of France. Orly is by far its largest base, from where it flies to Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Tunisia and Israel among others. It sells unbundled fares in the low-cost manner but sits inside Air France-KLM, so its tickets can be combined with group products and its aircraft are progressively being standardised on the A320neo family.
As a French licensed airline, Transavia France is fully within EC 261/2004 on departures from France and the rest of the EU, and on returns from Morocco, Tunisia or Israel into the Union. Most of its routes are between 1,500 and 3,500 km, so the usual amount is 400 EUR rather than 250 EUR, for example Orly to Faro, Marrakech, Athens or Tel Aviv. Slot restrictions and the Orly curfew after 23:30 often turn a modest delay into a same-night cancellation, which triggers the full compensation plus a hotel if you cannot get home.
Claims are filed on Transavia's own customer service form and are handled separately from Air France files, so do not send an AF case number and expect it to be recognised. Because the airline flies mainly to holiday destinations, keep the hotel or car hire confirmation you could not use: those consequential losses are not covered by Article 7 but strengthen a rerouting complaint. If your Orly flight is cancelled and the next Transavia seat is days away, ask in writing for a seat on Air France or another carrier, since Article 8 rerouting is not limited to the same airline or fare type.
