Transavia is the Dutch low-cost and holiday airline of the KLM group, flying point-to-point from Schiphol, Rotterdam and Eindhoven to around 100 sun and city destinations. It began as a charter operator in 1965 and moved to scheduled low-cost flying in the 1990s, keeping a strong tour-operator business alongside its own seat sales. Its schedule is highly seasonal, peaking in summer to the Mediterranean and in winter to the Canary Islands and Morocco.
Transavia holds a Dutch operating licence, so EC 261/2004 applies to its flights from Schiphol and from every other EU airport it serves, and to returns from Morocco, Turkey or Tunisia. Amsterdam to Faro, Malaga, Heraklion or Marrakech is longer than 1,500 km, which puts most claims in the 400 EUR band. Where a package holiday is involved, EC 261 rights against the airline exist in parallel with your rights against the tour operator, and you can pursue both.
File on Transavia's own claim form with the HV flight number and the reservation code; tickets bought through a tour operator still entitle you to claim directly from the airline, so do not let the agency handle it silently. Basic Transavia fares include no flexibility, but that has no effect on your rights: rerouting under Article 8 is free of charge whatever fare you bought. Late-evening returns to Schiphol are the weak spot, so if you are stranded overnight keep every receipt for the hotel, transfers and meals, because Transavia reimburses reasonable costs but rarely arranges accommodation at outstation airports.
