Tarom

Tarom flight delay or cancellation compensation

  • IATA RO, ICAO ROT — Romania's flag carrier, flying since 1954 from Bucharest Henri Coandă.
  • Mixed fleet of Boeing 737s and ATR 72 turboprops on domestic and regional routes.
  • State-owned and restructuring under a plan cleared by the European Commission.

Tarom concentrates on Bucharest, linking Romanian cities such as Cluj, Iași, Timișoara and Oradea with Western European capitals and a handful of Middle Eastern destinations. Years of losses led to a state-aid restructuring plan, fleet renewal and route cuts, so its timetable changes more often than at larger European carriers.

Your passenger rights

Tarom is a Romanian EU carrier, which means EC 261/2004 applies to every departure from an EU airport and every arrival into the EU, including returns from Tel Aviv, Amman, Cairo or Dubai. Compensation is €250 on the short sectors and €400 on most European and Middle Eastern routes above 1,500 km.

Tips for claiming

A schedule change announced weeks in advance still counts as a cancellation when the airline moves you to a materially different flight, and with less than 14 days' notice you may be owed compensation on top of the rebooking. File in writing and keep the original timetable, because Tarom revises its published schedules often and the earlier version is your evidence.
