SunExpress was created to carry holiday traffic between Türkiye and Germany and still concentrates on that market, adding Austrian, Swiss, Dutch and Scandinavian cities alongside domestic Turkish routes. It sells both seat-only tickets and blocks of seats to tour operators, and its programme swings hard with the summer season.
Your passenger rights
This is the one airline in this group where the carrier's nationality decides the outcome. SunExpress is Turkish, not an EU carrier, so EC 261/2004 covers its flights departing from EU airports — Frankfurt or Vienna to Antalya, for example — but not its flights from Türkiye into the EU. On the return leg, Türkiye's own passenger rights regulation, SHY-Yolcu, gives broadly similar rights to care, rerouting and compensation, enforced by the Turkish civil aviation authority.
Tips for claiming
Check which direction went wrong before claiming: a delay of three hours or more on an EU departure is a straightforward €400 claim under EC 261, since Türkiye is usually 1,500–3,500 km from Central Europe, whereas a delay leaving Antalya has to be pursued under Turkish rules instead. Keep the boarding pass and any written explanation, and file the EU-departure claim with SunExpress rather than Lufthansa or Turkish Airlines, because the joint-venture parents are not the operating carrier.
