Norwegian

Norwegian flight delay or cancellation compensation

  • IATA DY / ICAO NAX, operating as Norwegian Air Shuttle from Oslo.
  • Short-haul only since 2021, when the long-haul Dreamliner operation was closed.
  • Acquired regional carrier Widerøe in 2024, adding Norway's thin coastal routes.

Norwegian was Europe's most aggressive low-cost expansion story until a 2021 restructuring cut it back to a profitable Nordic and European network of Boeing 737s. It is now the largest airline in Norway by domestic passengers and competes with SAS on the main Oslo trunk routes.

Your passenger rights

Norway applies EC 261/2004 through the EEA agreement, so a delayed Oslo-Bergen flight is protected in exactly the same way as an intra-EU one, at 250 EUR under 1,500 km and 400 EUR above it. Since the airline no longer flies long-haul, the 600 EUR band effectively never applies to a Norwegian-operated flight.

Tips for claiming

Norwegian's own portal expects your booking reference and the ticket-holder's details, and claims filed by one passenger for a whole party are often rejected, so submit per passenger. If a Widerøe aircraft operated your Norwegian-numbered flight, name Widerøe as the operating carrier. Norway's out-of-court route is the national transport complaints board, Transportklagenemnda.
