Luxair

Luxair flight delay or cancellation compensation

  • IATA LG, ICAO LGL — Luxembourg's flag carrier, based at Luxembourg Findel.
  • Boeing 737s and De Havilland Dash 8-400s serve business hubs and holiday destinations alike.
  • Its LuxairTours arm sells package holidays flown on the same aircraft.

Luxair exists mainly to connect a small, business-heavy market to European hubs and financial centres, then fills the rest of its capacity with LuxairTours holiday flights to the Mediterranean, the Canaries and Egypt. Findel has a single runway and few nearby alternatives, so bad weather or runway works affect the whole operation at once.

Your passenger rights

Luxair is licensed in Luxembourg, so EC 261/2004 covers all its flights leaving the EU and all its flights arriving into the EU, including returns from Egypt, Türkiye, Cape Verde or Morocco. Those longer leisure routes normally sit in the €400 band, while short hops to Frankfurt, Munich, London or Paris are worth €250.

Tips for claiming

When a Luxair flight is cancelled, the airline sometimes offers a road or rail transfer to Frankfurt, Brussels or Saarbrücken, and accepting it does not waive your compensation, which depends only on how late you reach your final destination. If you booked through LuxairTours, address the EC 261 claim to Luxair as the operating carrier and any package complaint to the tour operator separately.
