Francisca Albuquerque
Founder of Compensall
Before starting Compensall, I spent close to a decade working on one thing: EU air passenger rights claims. I've seen thousands of delayed, cancelled and overbooked flights from the passenger's side of the table. I've also seen exactly how airlines respond when someone asks for what the law says they're owed.
A decade on the passenger's side
Regulation EC 261/2004 has been law since 2005. It entitles passengers to up to €600 for long delays, cancellations and denied boarding. Most people still never claim. The ones who do are often met with silence, slow replies, or a standard rejection blaming the weather or air traffic control.
A rejection letter is rarely the end of a claim. Very often it's a test of whether the passenger will push back.
Over the years I learned which airlines pay quickly, which ones stall, and which rejection reasons hold up once you check the facts. Most importantly, I learned that under EU law it's the airline that has to prove an extraordinary circumstance, not the passenger.
Why I built Compensall
After almost ten years in this industry, I wanted to build a claims company the way I would have wanted one to work if my own flight had been cancelled. That meant starting from scratch with everything I'd learned.
The first thing I learned is uncomfortable for a claims company to admit: many people who contact us aren't actually owed compensation. I would rather tell you that honestly, in minutes, than take your case and keep you waiting for months. Compensall checks your eligibility before anything else.
How we check your case
We don't take an airline's explanation at face value. For every claim, we check:
- Flight data. The actual arrival time, which is what counts under EU law, not departure.
- Weather records. Official METAR reports from the airports involved, to see whether "bad weather" really stopped the flight.
- The cause of the disruption. Whether it was truly beyond the airline's control, or a technical, crew or scheduling issue that counts as the airline's responsibility.
- The distance to your final destination. This sets whether you're owed €250, €400 or €600.
I built our own AI-assisted review system to do these checks consistently. A person still reviews every decision that matters.
What I stand for
Honesty first
If your case isn't strong, we'll tell you. Taking a claim we can't win wastes your time and ours.
Evidence over assumptions
Airlines have the burden of proof. We make sure they actually meet it.
Transparency
No win, no fee. You'll always know where your claim stands.
What Compensall is, and isn't
Compensall is a claims management company. We are not a law firm. When an airline refuses to pay a valid claim, we escalate through the appropriate channels: alternative dispute resolution bodies, national enforcement authorities and, where needed, independent legal partners.
If your flight was delayed, cancelled or overbooked in the last years, you may be owed up to €600.
