Your rights under UK261 and EC 261

Air passengers in the UK and EU are protected when flights are delayed, cancelled, or disrupted through no fault of their own.

UK261 — UK departures

After Brexit, the UK retained passenger rights through UK261. It applies to flights departing from UK airports and sets fixed compensation in pounds: £220, £350, or £520 depending on distance.

EC 261/2004 — EU departures

EU Regulation EC 261/2004 continues to protect passengers on eligible flights departing from EU airports, with compensation of €250, €400, or €600 on the same distance bands.

If your flight is delayed by three hours or more at arrival, cancelled with short notice, or you are denied boarding against your will, you may be entitled to fixed compensation. You may also have rights to care, rerouting, and refunds depending on the circumstances.

Missed connections and airline strikes can also qualify when the disruption is within the airline's control. Compensall helps you check eligibility, prepare your claim, and pursue compensation with the airline on a no win, no fee basis.

When can you claim compensation?

You may be eligible if all of the following apply to your journey.

1

UK or EU departure

Your flight departed from a UK airport (UK261) or an EU airport (EC 261/2004), or meets other eligibility rules for your route.

2

Significant disruption

You arrived at your final destination three or more hours late, or your flight was cancelled or you were denied boarding.

3

Airline responsibility

The disruption was not caused by extraordinary circumstances outside the airline's control, such as severe weather or air traffic restrictions.

4

You checked in on time and hold a valid booking for the affected flight.

5

Within time limits

You start your claim within the applicable time limit — generally up to six years in England and Wales.
